Amgen-SF Program

In 1999, working with our partner Tularik (now Amgen SF), ChemoCentryx discovered a novel compound that targets a powerful chemokine receptor antagonist known as CXCR3. Under the terms of our collaboration, Amgen retains worldwide commercialization rights to compounds discovered against CXCR3, while ChemoCentryx will receive certain payments in connection with the development and marketing of any products developed.

CXCR3 is found on the surface of lymphocytes and binds with "CXC" chemokines which are thought to be implicated in acute inflammation. The binding of small molecule agonists to CXCR3 inhibits the migration of lymphocytes into inflamed tissue and is intended to provide symptomatic relief and block the progression of inflammatory conditions, without impairing important immune system functions.
